Fifth Arrival at Milliways + 2 Days
Milliways

Well, it would appear that yours truly is well and truly doomed.

I don't think I'm exaggerating. Last night I had a nice long chat with a fellow who's more of a multiversal traveler than me- apparently he was doing this stuff before he ever came to Milliways. His name is Eddie and he's from Brooklyn. Nice guy. Accent you could cut into bricks and sell for building material. Anyway, Eddie and I got to talking after he said I looked like Dan Ackroyd, and one thing led to another and the whole multiverse thing started unfolding, and it turns out he's got a lot to do with Alain and Alain's set of multi-world theories. Including some really interesting stuff about the fractional nature of time-skips, which is important to me given that it appears my native continuum is less philotically connected to the other three known Ghostbusting universes than I'd previously thought, but that's a little beside the point. The important part is that he said he and his friends, in the process of trying to save the tower that supposedly underpins all existence, were haunted by doors. I mentioned the 'do not open until doomsday' one in the animated continuum, and he explained about all the different doors he and his friends've dealt with, including the really old, really broken-down technological ones that pass between dimensions.

So I told him what Egon and I built in the animated continuum's basement.

Apparently this is roughly as impossible as building the PKE beacon, where he comes from. It's the equivalent to tech that was lost completely thousands upon thousands of years ago, built by a race that tried to do its own shoring-up of existence by supplementing the natural energetic Beams that feed into the Tower and solidify the universe. Called 'em the Old Ones but they sound like they're further from Great C. and his buddies than anything, really. Anyway, he said that if anybody ever found out that I could build those doors, that I'd become the target of a whole lot of attention from the bad guys, who control the remaining working techno-doors and a few magical ones as well. Given that Mike said there were things in the dark howling for my blood I'm not really sure I want to think about that possibility. I kind of, um, I told him about what the PKE beacon does, and he just went all white and said I'd built a prototype Beam generator myself. . .

The next several days are going to be dedicated to building the licky security system. And then the lightsaber. I doubt that building a lightsaber is going to somehow magically give me any kind of Force sensitivity whatsoever but I'd feel a whole lot better about having potentially acquired a whole new set of enemies if I had some way of protecting my friends and my home that didn't involve what amounts to a firehose full of out-of-control protons. And hey, if it turns out I do have some kind of Force ability, which I really and truly doubt but you never know, then there's always the chance I'll find a way to sense them coming. I might be too old to make the Jedi really happy, but it's like the Green Lantern Corps said in Emerald Dawn- 'fear is a learned response for your species, and you can unlearn it'. If there's some kind of chance that what Egon and I have done is going to put my friends in trouble, then I have to at least try and find a way to prevent that.

. . . uh-oh.

I think I need to get to the animated reality at some point really, really soon. That's where the door is, and where the doomsday door is, and where the most advanced Ghostbusting tech was before I started bringing Milliways stuff back. If the hammer's going to fall on any of us, it's going to fall there. I have to set things right with that Peter- but I also need to warn them before it all has the chance to go to Hell.
