Ray opens the door to his room; despite his personal habits, he's been keeping it fairly clean the past few nights he's slept here. He gestures to the closet. "I have a folding workbench in there and a spare chair..."

Egon grimaces. "Well, then. We have to make a plan. If she's on that level, I doubt we can cross the streams here." He taps his chin.

"I think I may have to do a survey of PKE patterns in the bar. For my own interest, at least. And if I encounter this woman, well, it's only natural I get a reading."

He notices the hands, and then looks right at Ray again. "This woman has angered a lot of people, if Security is noticing it. We can do this, Ray. We HAVE done this." He nods. "We just need to prepare. Which this -" he taps the Lesser Key of Solomon again "- is going to be part of. And what you've done." He closes his eyes for a moment and breathes. "And others. If all my time as a Ghostbuster has taught me anything, it's that not one of us can beat some of these things... but standing together, we can beat anything."

And that's the voice that Ray's only heard once or twice in all the time they've known each other. It's Egon's faith speaking there.

"I can give you the background- oh." Ray blinks a few times, realizing what Egon means. "Well. Yeah. You definitely need to verify what's going on out there, but, um... yeah. Tell you what, how about I give you one of the meters I've been working on with the new and improved dampener for high-energy environments? I mean, there are beings around here with serious meter-splodey potential and if we're going to be looking into stuff like that then we should probably make sure the tools work before you beat me into the Severed Limbs of Star Wars club."

All the survival instincts of an eggplant, that boy.

He steeples his fingers, thinking. "All right," he says at last. "I can get behind that. I- yeah. You're right about that. This isn't the kind of thing any of us can do alone, but..." He rubs at the back of his neck. "Security knows me. I'm actually part-time staff of theirs- Barry Allen hired me to do detective work under certain circumstances, and I gave them a couple of traps. I think... I think we need to offer our services, whatever they might be, to Alanna. Sir Alanna's the head of security at the moment-"

A pause.

"And we need to keep Peter the hell away from this woman. You know what his temper's like. If she could coax this kind of dark side out of a fourteen year old kid, can you imagine what would happen if Peter tried his usual psychological subtlety without the combined might of the Aesir and Vanir behind him?" He shakes his head. "But you're right. We can do this- she can't be any worse than Big C-"

Another pause.

"I'm... wearing his slippers, aren't I."

"We should speak to Sir Alanna then, as soon as we can, after I do the 'survey'. And yes, the dampener would be best - I also am not in the mood to lose a limb or, perhaps, blow up part of the bar. You did have the best overhand of all of us."

He listens carefully to the rest. "Yes. Yes you are. And you're right. We need to keep him away from her, both because of his less than salutory manner to people he does not respect, and because of his current fragility of spirit. I shudder, somewhat, at the possibilities."

"You are the expert guide here, Ray. When you feel the time is right, tag me. I'm following your lead as to how to do things here."

"You should see how big of a kaboom they make if you throw an overloaded one into water," Ray says conversationally. "But I'll talk to Sir Alanna- and I think I'll do that first, just to be on the safe side. Security might have some plan in place already. I don't want us stepping on anyone's toes."

Possibly this is not entirely the case, but every so often he does have a glimmer of sense.

"In the meantime, though, you should start taking the occasional scan in public. Just try and avoid Rowlands without being obvious about it, okay? If you establish a pattern of behavior while I'm trying to get hold of Sir Alanna, that should keep the eyebrows from going up. She's got dark hair, a Welsh accent, and usually dresses in white from what I understand. She's also prone to knitting. I'd show you what she looks like, but I don't have a photograph and you know how I am about descriptions of the living."

He rubs at his face with one hand.

"As long as we're on the subject of research, though, I really do need to get you introduced to Asar-Suti. He maintains a magical library here that could be absolutely invaluable. Also, possibly, to Raven." He smiles a bit. "By which I mean he who stole the sun because he felt sorry for the poor wriggling pink critters he found under the clam and the chiton shells by the seashore. If you run into him before I do, he appreciates cookies. He's a trickster and gives every impression of being unstable, but when there's mishegoss like this going on you could do a heck of a lot worse than to know Raven."

"This is why I felt you should take the lead here - I wouldn't have thought about that. But I've been meaning to take some readings, anyway. So if you lend me the meter, I can begin."

Ray nods and rummages through the drawers of his desk for a moment before coming up with his goal. "Here," he says, tossing the meter in Egon's direction. "The blue slider's a selective dampener- the further to the right you slide it, the less often it samples the local valences, so the less risk there is of big bada boom. Which is good, because I had to do a heckuva lot of work to get it to the point of being able to pick up on the Force."
