The door opens, as has happened so many times before, onto a grey-walled alley. Ray pokes his head out and looks around. "Okay," he says. "We should be all right- come on out, guys."
"It's a spring," she says. "Only it isn't springy."
This is fascinating, obviously.
Reluctantly, she sets it back on the shelf; it doesn't seem like it would be as much fun without the flat planes and sharp angles of this world. Maybe if she could take it back to the steps in Kilika.
(But then she's never going back to Kilika, and now she steps a little faster and grabs something up at random.)
Yuna opens her mouth, maybe to say that, maybe not, but changes gears when a figure moving through the crowds and sleet catches her eye. "Oh, there's Ray!"
She drops the cube into her pocket. "I had a good time, too," she says confidentially, and takes his hand again.

When she's turning it over in her hands, one of the layers rotates. "Oh!"
She peers at the art on the tag, ignoring the tiny and eye-blurring print. "I think it's a puzzle?"

He follows her, ball still bouncing, and gets rung up--and manages to pay with a minimum of problems--before they're back on the street.
And now he doesn't know what to say again.
Dammit.

"I guess we better see if we can find Ray," she says wistfully. "Did you have a good time?"

"Oh! Yeah." And he's grinning widely as he nudges her shoulder with his. "Almost like being, well. Home."
It's only a little wistful, and it's not really almost like it, but it's close.
