OOC: Gozer Vs. Cthulhu

I don't know if any of you guys are still out there, but I know over the past year I've had the occasional indicator of interest from people reading this journal who may or many not read Ray's Milliways posts. This is addressed to you guys.
I'm sorry it took me so long to finish the October plot and set up Gozer vs. Cthulhu. I'm also sorry that I decided to convey the ending of that plot to Milliwaysers in a purely IC fashion, rather than writing it up as an OOM. Since I know the possibility exists that some of you may be interested in seeing how it ended, I'd like to point you at the threads where Ray tells his Milliways friends exactly what happened instead.
Ray tells Tyler Marlocke
Ray tells Annabelle Newfield
I'd been planning to end it this way for months, but couldn't figure out how to write it properly, so this seemed like the best way to convey it without blowing the whole thing. Thank you for your patience, and I'll do my best not to pull this on you again.

What does the Gozer cult think of all this? Their god has abandoned his holy mission in favor of an iconic product of the very same sick and decadent civilization they wanted him to end!
...And Lacey Davenport is President of the United States? Awesome.

I'm very, very tired of Hollywood putting brilliant liberals or brilliant Democrats in the White House and putting them up against evil, scheming, or stupid Republicans in Congress. Lacey Davenport seemed like the best possible Republican to put in the White House as a countermeasure. (Her opponent was Dave Kovic, aka Kevin Klein's character in Dave, although in this world he was governor of Virginia rather than just an impersonator.)

Date: 2008-12-26 08:53 pm (UTC)The thought of turning Gozer into either Galactus or Unicron to kick Cthulhu's ass occurred first. That, at least, gave me the opportunity to come up with an ending that didn't require me to take Ray's whole universe as grim and horrible as a place where the Great Old Ones were winning would be. (Much as I like the Mythos, Ray is from a comedy universe, and I am not prepared to make it black comedy.) The prospect of Twinkies occurred within about fifteen minutes of deciding that it'd have to be one of those two, most likely Unicron. Galactus was beaten once in Marvel by Aunt May, using Twinkies. Granted, it was an Assistant Editors' Month issue and the story was presented as the dream of an editor who fell asleep at his desk, BUT STILL. I wound up going with Unicron rather than Galactus because Ray would have an excuse to find the Twinkies if he had to run away from the victor in search of a way back to Milliways so that he could get Optimus Prime and a Matrix of Leadership. The Yith delivering the twinkies were just sort of icing on the cake, so to speak.
The Twinkie idea turned up in my brain back in mid-September. It just took me a while to get it properly implemented.
