Ray exhaled, backing away and dropping his hands.

"I meant Milliways," said Michelle. "I don't know if I have any choice but to believe you at this point- so- yeah, the beginning would be a good place to start. Who goes first?"

Bonnie looked around the lot of them before shrugging. "I'll start, I guess," she said. "But I've got to admit that a lot of Karr's creation was before my time. I'm responsible for the brother over there."

She pointed to Kitt.

"But in our reality, Karr was almost deactivated because of a percieved error on the test track. Kitt was made to replace him. He was partnered to Michael Knight." After a moment's pause, she looked up at the other Karr and driver with a bit of trepidation. "I think you'd know him as Michael Long."

"I still would like to know what he means by 'car form'."

"If you know him at all," the Milliways KARR said, picking up where Bonnie left off. It seems a lot changes about people from universe to universe-consider myself and your KARR. Judging from the fact that he seems about as a thick a telephone book...well, I think two years underwater made all the difference."

"Neither one of you are being exactly welcoming," Kitt muttered. But then, making sure that Ray was out of the way, Kitt quietly asked Karr - his brother - to open his passenger door.

"Ray, if you'll step to one side, I'll see to Karr's insistances for a demonstration."

[And you can hit me in the head later if you need.]

"We can ask them in a-"

The rest of the sentence died as Bonnie's words got through to Michelle.

"Wait. What? Are you sure about that?"

Ray, not sure he liked the sound of the situation, stepped aside immediately at Kitt's words.

The other KARR revved his engine at the Milliways KARR at the insult. Technically being the same person, it seemed, didn't mean they had to like each other.

[I'll be sure to,] KARR sent back, opening his door. "And yes, she's sure. She's had to work with the idiot on a regular basis."

He'd be damned before he missed an opportunity to insult Michael.

"Michael is my partner," Kitt agreed. "And I wouldn't have any other. Ray, please step behind Karr's door. I don't want to expose you to any danger."

With those words, he transformed. The black car blurred, shifted, until a young man - rather surprisingly tall - stood where Kitt had been. Black hair, red eyes.

"And I believe this would answer part of your questioning."

There was a strangled squawk from Michelle's KARR, and for a moment, his scanner flared and went wild, then died out. Then the car sat quietly.

Apparently, Kitt turning into a human was a little much for him.

"...Good lord, Kitt. If you killed him, I might have to run over your foot."

Michelle stared. Just... stared.

She didn't quite seem to realize that she was resting her hand on KARR's dashboard in a 'please don't die on me' gesture.

"Karr, give me a scan--" she said quickly, ducking her head inside. "Kitt--"

But she barely had to say a word. Kitt already sat on four wheels, scanner flashing back and forth. "My apologies," he said. "I was answering the question, and should have given some warning."

Bonnie sighed. "Let's hope he's rebooted..."

Bonnie's KARR scanned, his own scanner flaring. "He's coming back online," he muttered, his scanner still bright.

Sure enough, the red scanner sluggishly came back to life, although it was still dim. A humming could be heard that eventually changed into a song. More specifically, 'A Bicycle Built for Two'.

It was probably never a good thing to hear that song from an AI.

"Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do," the other KARR sang off-keyley. "I'm half crazy all for the love of you..."

When someone asks you if you're a god, you say yes.

And when an AI starts singing that song, unless you are Dave Bowman or Dr. Chandra, you hide.

Ray hid. Behind, oh, probably Kitt now that he had his wheels back.

Bonnie saw Kitt flap a door open out of the corner of her eye. She, however, was stepping out from behind Karr's to head toward the other Karr.

"Dammit, Kitt, you broke him."

"I would attempt CPU access in order to repair--"

"Let him go for a few seconds. Then, if nothing else, I'll see what I can do."

Tony, being proficient in the genre of science fiction, knows all to well that that song spells D-O-O-M in the hearts of many AI. Unfortunately, as the AI is the problem and not the humans, there is very little Tony can do but stay firmly where he is and pray to God that the other KARR doesn’t systematically start killing people.

He did find it very, er, comforting that KARR, KITT, and Milliways were capable of breaking the brains of the most advanced AI. It meant that he wasn’t alone.

The non-insane KARR, meanwhile, had utterly no clue what the song signified. They had neglected to teach him about certain famous 'AI goes insane' movies, in hopes it wouldn't give him ideas. Not that it had helped much in the end, but the thought had been there. "Ray? Why are you hiding? And Kitt, I think I might have to hit you multiple times."

Michelle's KARR just kept singing, apparently enjoying himself greatly. "...can't afford a carriage/But you'll look sweet upon the seat/Of a bicycle built for two..."

Ray swallowed. "That was a test piece installed in a computer called the HAL 9000," he said. "HAL got conflicting orders of equal strength and urgency, completely failed to reconcile them, and had a catastrophic breakdown. That song was the first thing he sang when he was activated and the last thing he sang before they had to forcibly decommission him to keep him from wreaking any further havoc."

Ray's no good at fibbing.

"Oh good heavens," Kitt muttered and began to extend himself wirelessly. Between himself and Bonnie, surely some order could be restored. If Karr would help, it would even be better. "It seems his system integrity may be falling. I can lend the necessary support. Bonnie, if you need, you can use my systems, as you haven't brought your laptop."

"...Well, that's nice and foreboding, now isn't it?" Bonnie's KARR sighed. "Kitt? You're going back home with dents in you."

"...Ped'ling away down the road of life/I and my Daisy Bell..."

Bonnie looked up at Michelle. "I need you to tell me if he's ever done this before. I need you two--" she glanced behind her at Karr and Kitt "to give me a full system readout on him, and someone to smack me in the back of the head for not bringing my laptop.

"Mind if I take a look at some circuitry?" she asked of Michelle again - all business.

"..." Michelle shook her head. "This hasn't happened in ages. He doesn't normally get stuck in a reboot cycle. He'd better not be broken..."

She ran a hand over her face. "Yes, please do. The sooner he's himself again, the better."

It was all she could do not to bark out 'YOU GET OVER HERE AND YOU FIX HIM RIGHT NOW'.

"Kitt would have to do that," Bonnie's KARR said dryly. "You know I couldn't smack you." But he set to work on getting a system readout.

Back in HAL-land, the other KARR wa sstill enjoying himself immensely with song. "...there are bright lights in the dazzling eyes/Of beautiful Daisy Bell..."

Bonnie stepped over to the driver's side and climbed in, glancing around before finding the circuit boards she needed, looking over them with the eye of someone well-trained for such things. "All right... Interior hardware seems intact... Kitt, I'm engaging computer override."

And she did, very very carefully.

"Karr, what's the readout?"

Intent tech.
