The door opens, as has happened so many times before, onto a grey-walled alley. Ray pokes his head out and looks around. "Okay," he says. "We should be all right- come on out, guys."

Yuna is not enthusiastic.

"It's too sweet! And it burns. Ew. Ew." She gulps some water, bumping herself in the nose with the lemon slice.

"It's great!" he repeats in protest and starts slurping at it again.

"Man, you think we can get this in the bar?"

Yuna thoughtfully removes the lemon wedge from her glass rim and begins to squeeze juice in.

"I don't know," she says, making a face. "It can't be good for you."

"You drank tea with tiny Sin spawn in it," he points out and cheerfully swishes the ice cubes around with his straw.

This is Yuna's incensed face.

"Yours moves! On its own!"

The waitress rolls her eyes, plunking down two bowls of spicy noodles.

"Just kiss already," she mutters as she walks away.

Tidus will join her in blushing. Not near as much, thankfully, and he's tan enough what is there is harder to notice.

But he'll also grin. A little.

And--

Wakka would kill him.

Lulu would fry him.

He's not sure Kimarhi might not eat him

He's sneaking a look at her over their noodles anyway.

Yuna is studying her noodles! Thoroughly! A lot!

Chopsticks; twirl twirl twirl.

(There's so much he doesn't know about her world, about her, and it wouldn't be fair to him. And there's Lulu, and Auron, and what they'd say, and they'd be right, because her pilgrimage is important, the most important thing, and anyway it wouldn't be fair to him, and anyway if she were going to--anything--there's Lord Seymour, too, a maester and a great summoner and --and she never, never expects to, never expected to--)

Bite. Chew. Swallow.

"It's good," she says, her voice high and a little strained.

They're very exciting noodles, Tidus is sure.

Tidus is still looking at Yuna, rather than either his noodles or hers, but he will totally believe they're exciting.

"It is!" He winces a little, because he's pretty certain his own voice is higher than it should be.

The waitress refills his glass and he covers what he thinks must be the definition of awkward silence by a long drink.

"So. Uh. Funny waitress."

Wait. He didn't want to say that.

"--How's your lemon?"

...Right, so now he can not worry about a Ronso eating him or not, because he's going to bang his head against a rock enough tonight to take care of the problem all together.

It really is good, familiar and new at the same time, and she twirls up another helping. "Where do you want to go after we eat? We still have plenty of time, don't we?"

Tidus feels like he has enough energy to see all of New York, really.

"Shopping?"

"We could look, at least!" She's not sure about spending the money, even if it's going on a tab. "I bet there's all kinds of amazing things to buy here."
